Buttonwillow Week-end

Thanks ARC for another great week-end 06-23/24. ESP... Dave, Luc, Alex and Alan + TCRA honchos.

The ARC Race with TCRA was great, good people and fast too! I would run with them anytime. We should do that more often, (invite them to TH) nice big field! We started 23 on Sat and 25 on Sunday, that's cool!!!

Let's keep this grassroots Club Racing going and if you want to Road Race, this is the place!

Another thanks to the crew for a great day as well.  Only made the TT on Sat. but since

it stayed nice early and didn't get into triple digits too quick it was a good day.  I only

caught the qual for the race but it was fun seeing that many good drivers out at once.

Running with the TCRA folks was fun and the help from Brian in his C4 on the line

early was great, NCRC coaching is very helpful.

Mike, WTG on the race and TT result.  I gave it my all, even going down for

the day 3 weeks earlier to get some laps in CCW.  Oh so close, 7 / 100ths, when

usually I'm quite of bit off, painful!  I'm guessing you haven't done BW often.

Getting down the Star Mazda and Off Ramp corners on short notice has

been the hardest for me.

Thanks again to Alex for the work getting this all published.

Hi Randy, Thanks and I'm sorry I didn't have much time to talk Saturday. Got black flags in both prac sessions and had to stop an oil leak before Qual session. Yes you guessed right, my qual session was learning (first time ccw), practice, qual for race and TT event, all in one. I had a little hard time at first with the track, but by Sunday's race I was getting it, but tires went away and had to stay ahead of a swarm of SM's. Someday I'll get some suspension, it's all CMC stuff, the lowest level of suspension out there and tires. I liked the track very much and enjoyed the TCRA group, esp my race with the grn 911. I spun-out twice racing him, had a ball tho! You're doing great with street tires, etc. Maybe Jul 20th we can go out together and play (practice).

Mike, I'd love to try and chase you some on the 20th but last I looked you were something

like 4+ sec's faster at TH.  I'm sure I'd learn something.  I try to get to BW about 5 to 8 days

a year, about 1/2 CCW which is why I like the track better than TH, always a new day with

something different.  And I find CCW to be more fun than CW, fwiw.

I don't really know CMC but I'm guessing you are still pretty heavy in the steel body.  I run

at just about 3450# with me in the car and just about 300rwhp.  I am on street tires, 220 wear

rating but they are Z06 sizes on a coupe so I have good relative grip for my power output.

The best compliment I get is that I drive it like a momentum car.  I know about the pesky SM's

as that is usually my gauge if I'm doing ok.  Some can run faster than I do at TH but at BW,

it seems I was running faster than the SM I saw in the Qual session, early at least, that's about

when I packed up to go home.  Too hot for me and the car.  Look forward to TH.

You're doing really good, considering the tires you're running. What brand?

I studied some good street tires, not DOT race type, for moving down a class in my other car. After reading all the shoot outs the BFG KD's or GY F1 (not run flats) were the dry winners. If rain area, the F1's or KDW's were the winners in the wet. Remember Erin McFall had those KD's and did real well w/vette. My car isn't heavy (2710), just springs/shocks for suspension. Someday soon I'll put coil overs/panhard bar, trq arm, etc and some dot slicks. I've been running those Hankook 211's, the ones that were on sale for 133 and have worked real good.

Have to admit, don't know much about suspension differences.  I talked to Erin as

much as I could when I was first on track, very quick in a modest set up.  I run

Kumho MX's which don't get good ratings, at least at Tire Rack, but I know

several others that use them and for the price they last pretty well and I like them

better than the two sets of F1 SC GY's I ran off early on.  With Z06+ sizes, 275/295

I have lots of rubber on the road which I think helps me compared to non-Z06 cars

with less tread width.

Catch up with you at TH in a couple weeks.

Where were you?

Had good time and was nice weather, not too hot! I know for sure now my tires are gone, was off a couple seconds. This is the first time I haven't kept track of my heat cycles, so I added them up tonight and have over 20. Usually somewhere around 17-20 there gone! About $40 per session for tires. hate to think like that. add entry, fuel, motor, etc and that's why I'm always broke! Have been using 7-8 gals gas per session, gas hog!

Man I can't get use to non-ABS, skidded my tires today at least 3 times, once for about 200 feet avoiding somebody. Sure miss ABS! Probably another reason my tires are gone! All those track days with the newer Mustang and not once skidded a tire, just hammer on the brakes! This is like going back in time...............the old days!

I beleive in ABS and Deer whistles!
